On March 15, 2022, former owner of Scottsdale Airpark News and civic leader Diana Smith is interviewed by Joan Fudala about the evolution of Scottsdale Airpark, media in the Valley in the 1980s and involvement with the Scottsdale Cultural Council, Scottsdale Transportation Commission, Chamber of Commerce, Scottsdale Leadership, Scottsdale Historical Society, and the Friends of the Library.
Diana and her husband moved to Scottsdale in 1986 when they bought the Scottsdale Airpark News. Diana relates the businesses and desert around the Scottsdale Airpark around this time, the new tower built at the Airpark to communicate with other airports in the Valley, the other newspapers in the Valley at the time, her work with Lois McFarland, and how Scottsdale Airpark News was created by Kent Leach and David Hallstrom.
Diana served on the Chamber of Commerce, the board of the YMCA, was President of the Friends of the Library, was part of Scottsdale Leadership in its infancy, joined the Scottsdale Cultural Council, the Scottsdale Historical Society's advisory board and helped document the moving of the Merci Car from Pioneer Village to McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park.
