The Borgata of Scottsdale was an open-air shopping center located at 6166 North Scottsdale Road, designed by Jones & Mah Architects, Inc. and built in 1981. The 7.5-acre site housed a 90,000 square foot retail development that was influenced by the Italian hill town of San Gimignano in Tuscany. Seven towers marked the entrances, and people passed through into narrow, well-scaled pedestrian streets and courtyards, providing orientation for shop fronts. Arched wall openings, cobblestones, fountains, rustic masonry, and clay tile roofs captured the desired character. In 2013, after several years of declining sales, the development was demolished and replaced with luxury condominiums called The Enclave at Borgata. Pictured in December 2007.
