These images show the dedication ceremony for the new streetscape at West Main on November 25, 1991. Mayor Herb Drinkwater, à la Indiana Jones, uses a bull whip to cut the ribbon at this ceremony. Image -7045 shows Mayor Drinkwater conversing with Nancy Russell and Cottontail the mule, who is the official mascot of West Main.
On November 25, 1991, Mayor Herb Drinkwater dedicated the grand opening of the downtown improvement districts for Fifth Avenue, Marshall Way, Old Scottsdale and West Main.
The Downtown Scottsdale improvement districts dedicated in these images as part of the streetscape program was funded by the City of Scottsdale and the individual property owners. These improvements include new streetlight fixtures, benches, tree-lined streets, and sections of the pavement and sidewalk replaced with textured concrete.
