Interviewed by Joan Fudala. Interview summary- Roy Kinsey and his wife became involved with the McDowell Mountain Preserve after they met Steve Fleming and his wife when they came upon them building a trail in the preserve and were then recruited to the support of the Preserve. In the interview, Kinsey then tells how he was asked by Paul Norton to work with others to determine how to preserve open spaces in Fountain Hills, with especial concern for retaining views to the west. Later, the actions by the City of Scottsdale to preserve the views of the city resulted in a bond issue (which passed) and the creation of a sales tax for supporting the idea of creating a preserve. The Sonoran Conservancy is currently about 1,000 acres, of which 200 acres are actually owned by City of Scottsdale. This video relates some of the history of how this preserve was founded and maintained.
Date of interview- 12/13/2013.
This interview is approximately 37 minutes long.
